A Few Things to Check Before You Call
Not every electrical issue requires hiring an electrician. Before you pick up the phone, there are a few simple things worth checking. They’re safe to do, take only a few minutes, and resolve more problems than you’d expect. If none of these restore power, that’s when you should call.
Reset tripped breakers. Sometimes breakers appear to be on when in fact they have tripped. Locate your home’s electric panel and look for any breaker not fully in the “on” position. Push firmly to “off,” then flip back to “on.”
Check GFCI outlets. A GFCI outlet can protect many downstream outlets, often in different parts of the house. Look for outlets with Test/Reset buttons in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and exterior areas. If any are tripped, firmly press the Reset button.
Try a different bulb. LED bulbs are sensitive and can malfunction in ways that look like a wiring problem. Try swapping it out with a known good lightbulb or one from a different brand. If it’s on a dimmer switch, ensure that the bulb is compatible.
Check all wall switches. Some receptacles are switch-controlled, including switches that appear to control nothing.
How a Service Call Works
We follow the same systematic process on every visit:
Consultation
You describe what you’ve noticed, when it started, what patterns you’ve seen, and anything unusual. Your observations help us get to the answer faster.
Inspection
We examine your panel, wiring, and affected equipment for visible issues before testing begins.
Testing
We use professional diagnostic equipment like multimeters, circuit tracers, and thermal imaging to measure and identify the source of the problem.
Repair
Most problems are resolved during the initial visit. When they’re not, we will provide you with a clear plan and timeline for completion.
Troubleshooting FAQs
How quickly can you respond?
Safety-related calls are prioritized. For non-emergency service, we typically schedule within one to two business days.
What if you find more problems than I called about?
We’ll tell you what we found and what it means. We won’t pressure you into work you didn’t ask for. Genuine safety hazards get clearly communicated; everything else is your decision.
Do you work on older homes?
Yes. We’re experienced with the electrical systems common in older Colorado Springs homes, including aluminum wiring, knob-and-tube wiring, ungrounded outlets, and hazardous panels.
